FAQ
How much does dash cam installation cost?
Professional dash cam installation only starts from $170 for front and rear, and is dependent on your vehicle make/year/model.
For supply and install, it starts from $449 and is dependent on the the model of dashcam chosen, as well as the vehicle make/year/model. This includes the camera unit, memory card, hardwired installation with hidden cables, and testing. We recommend budgeting $400-$600 for a quality front and rear camera setup. Higher-end models with 4K resolution, cloud connectivity, or interior cameras cost more but provide comprehensive protection.
Do dash cams record all the time?
Yes, dash cams record continuously in a loop while driving. When the memory card is full, the oldest footage is automatically overwritten unless it's been locked (which happens automatically during detected impacts). Many cameras also offer parking mode that records when motion or impacts are detected while parked. You can choose continuous parking recording or impact-only depending on your needs and battery concerns.
Will it drain my car battery?
When hardwired properly, dash cams use very little power and include low-voltage cutoff protection to prevent battery drain. Our installations monitor your battery voltage and automatically shut off the camera if voltage drops too low. For parking mode, we can install a dedicated battery pack that powers the camera without touching your main battery. Most customers can safely run parking mode for days without any battery issues.
What memory card size do I need?
We recommend 64GB to 128GB high-endurance memory cards designed specifically for dash cams. A 64GB card typically stores 6-8 hours of 1080p footage before looping. Higher resolution (4K) or dual-camera setups fill cards faster, so 128GB or 256GB is better for those. High-endurance cards are essential as standard SD cards fail quickly from constant writing. We include appropriate cards with all our installations.
Can police request my dash cam footage?
Yes, police can request dash cam footage as part of an investigation, and you're generally encouraged to provide it voluntarily if you witnessed an incident. However, you're usually not legally required to hand it over unless there's a warrant. Your footage can help solve crimes, identify hit-and-run drivers, or corroborate witness statements. Many people find satisfaction in helping bring justice, but the decision to share is ultimately yours.
How do I access and share the footage?
Most dash cams allow you to remove the memory card and view files on a computer. WiFi-enabled cameras let you download footage directly to your smartphone via an app without removing the card. Footage is typically saved as small video files (1-3 minutes each) in MP4 format that can be easily shared via email or cloud storage. We show you exactly how to access and share files after the installation.
Will the dash cam be visible or obtrusive?
We install dash cams discreetly behind your rearview mirror where they're barely noticeable from inside or outside the vehicle. All wiring is hidden in the headlining, A-pillar, and door seals for a factory-like finish. The camera won't obstruct your view or look like an aftermarket addition. Rear cameras are typically hidden near the number plate light or mounted inside the rear windscreen. Professional installation ensures a clean, OEM appearance.
